Keywords Linking

Once you have your primary and secondary keywords, you also need to make sure you use your keywords effectively in your links..

Agin, I'm only going to go through the basic stuff here, if you want to learn about more advanced keyword linking strategies you should grab a copy of the Stomp SE Audio course, as it goes in to the real nuts and bolts of an advanced linking strategy to get a high search egngine ranking (more details at the bottom of the page).

Keywords in Anchor Text

There are a number of places you should use your keywords on your website to make sure you get the most relevancy from them.

The first and most important for internal linking within your own site is the Anchor text of links on your own pages that link to other pages within your site.

A classic mistake is to link back to yout home page with the phrase "home" or "home page", this is a waste of Page rank. ?You should always use your primary keyword phrase in the anchor text, for example - Finding Keywords Home

You should also use other relevant keywords for each of your pages and use them for your internal navigation links, for example - Keyword Analysis Tool

This will help to make sure your home page and other pages have relevancy in the Pr that you use within your site.

Other Keyword Placement

There are a number of other places you can use your keywords, but don't go over board or you can end up getting penalized for over optimization of your pages.

Alt Tags - when you put an image or grapic on your site you can put in an "alternative text descritpion" or "alt tag". This is a good place to use your primary keyword for the page, but it is generally recommended not to do so more than three times on a page, personally I only do so for one or two images.

# Anchor Tags - You can put "#" anchor links within a page to help people jump to a specific place on the page. For example got to the finding keywords link at the bottom of the page.

Here's the html yo need to use: -

1st part = <a href="#keyword-phrase">Keyword-Phrase</a>

2nd part = <a name="keyword-phrase">Keyword Phrase</a>

Again, this is something you want to use sparingly.

Keyword relevancy and in bound links

Just as with internal backlinks (i.e. links from one page on your site to another), the text that you get people to use when they link to your site is important. You want to make sure they use your keywords to ensure the link back to your site is as relevant as possible.

To make this as easy as possbible for people make sure that you not only have a links page, but that you also include instructions for linking to your site.

This is an example from my "link to us" page: -

"<a href="http://www.finding-keywords.org">Finding Keywords</a> - Finding Keywords Analysis Tool, Advice and Resources"

This will help to increase the relevancy of your inbound links and help your search engine rank for the keywords you use.
